Skullcandy Launches a New Set of Premium Wireless Headphones: The Grind

Last year, Skullcandy has released a successful headphone, called the Grind. Now, the company comes with an update, introducing the Bluetooth version.

So, last year’s model was a one-ear model that was comfortable to wear and offered an excellent sound. Now, the new model is more like an update, because Skullcandy has introduced the Bluetooth feature.

Of course, the new Skullcandy Grind Wireless is more expensive, being available at the price of 90 dollars. To be added that the original Grind is available at the price of 50 dollars.

As for design, the new Skullcandy Grind Wireless is very similar with last year’s version and is available in six different colors. Even if it feels very lightweight, this model is sturdily constructed, featuring plastic earcups that don’t feel cheap, and a metal headband.

This means that the new Skullcandy Grind Wireless is very comfortable to wear, especially for an on-ear model. The sound is pretty good because the headphone manages to seal out some ambient noise.

As it was mentioned earlier, the new Skullcandy Grind is a wireless model, meaning that users will be able to listen to it without any cable plugged in. However, a cable is also added in the package in case users want to listen in a “wired” mode.

To be added, that there is a microphone built into the right earcup along with a pause/play button that also answers and ends calls. Of course, there are also volume controls. It is important to know that users will be able to hold the volume up/down buttons to advance tracks forward and back. As for battery, the company declared that it is rated at approximately 12 hours.

Unfortunately, the new Skullcandy Grind Wireless doesn’t fold up or come with a carrying case, but that is not a huge minus. Used as a headset for making calls, this new model has performed pretty well.

So, this is a very good-sound Bluetooth headphone, especially for the price of 90 dollars. It has a very well balanced sound, decent clarity and a powerful bass. As for competitors, Skullcandy Grind Wireless could be compared with Urbanears Hellas, which is available for 30 dollars more and also has touch controls.

Urbanears Hellas probably comes with an advantage, because it also has water resistance features.

However, these two models have similar sound profiles. Customers who are willing to buy this model, don’t have to raise performance expectations, because we are still talking about a Bluetooth model. This means that at high volume, users will receive that touch of the Bluetooth feeling, meaning that it not incredible rich sounding.

Moreover, the new Skullcandy Grind Wireless doesn’t compete with other premium Bluetooth headphones, like Plantronics BackBeat Sense or Bose SoundLing Bluetooth One-Ear, which are available at the price of 150 dollars and 200 dollars, respectively.

So, is the new Skullcandy Grind Wireless worth the money? Well, yes, because it is well-built and has a good sound, especially for the price of 90 dollars. To be added, that last year’s model, Skullcandy Grind, is now available at the price of 40 dollars online.
