Acer Chromebook R 13 Convertible Review: The next generation

We are talking about the new Acer Chromebook R 13. This new laptop is a great alternative to an inexpensive Windows laptop.

People will be able to use the new Acer Chromebook R 13 for basic needs, for example word processing, Web surfing and online video watching.

We must mention that this laptop is pricier than more basic chromebooks.

The new Acer Chromebook R 13 is available at the price of 399 dollars.

But, at this high price, this new laptop also offers more memory, more storage, a generous battery life and a full HD screen.

Another great thing about this device is that it is a convertible 2-in-1 laptop. This means that it is more flexible than a simple clamshell laptop or tablet when playing Web-based games or watching movies.

Another good thing about the new Acer Chromebook R 13 is that it looks like a premium device. This laptop comes with a matter silver body that is built mostly from aluminum and glass.

The Acer Chromebook R13 a good reminder of Google Chromebook Pixel
It measures 0,62 x 12.82 x 8.92 inches and weighs approximately 3.25 pounds. This means that the new Acer Chromebook R 13 is smaller and lighter compared with the Acer Chromebook 14, which is available at the price of 285 dollars.

Furthermore, we must say that it comes with a multicolored Chrome logo situated on the lid, and it uses a single wide hinge.

This is an interesting choice from Acer, because many 2-in-1 laptops on the market come with dual hinges. As we know, the previous Acer Chromebook R 11 or the Lenovo Yoga 710 also come with dual hinges.

Opting for a single hinge, Acer also made possible for users to swing the screen around into four modes.

Users should also know that there are three modes that give them better position to the touch screen:

  • Tent mode, when the laptop stands upright on its edges
  • Display mode, when the keyboard facing down and the screen pointing outward
  • Pad mode, when the keyboard folded all the way back behind the display

We must say that the display mode is recommended for watching online videos while eating or sitting in bed.

Moving forward to the keyboard, we must add that the company opted for a non-backlit keyboard with a chiclet-style.

But, the keyboard retains the usual Chrome OS keys, for example the top row of function keys that offer users Web navigation, volume controls and brightness, but it also has Search instead of Caps Lock. The right Shift key is full size, a fact that is becoming a rarity on convertible laptops.

As for the screen, the company opted for a 13-3-inch screen that features a full HD 1.920 x 1.080 resolution. This means that this laptop can display 1080p videos natively.

Another great thing is that the bottom-mounted speakers are able to produce loud and clear sound to fill a small room.

To be added that people are able to use the headset jack if they want more immersive sound environment. They should know that this port is situated on the right side of the laptop.
