iPod touch: The Final Stage of Product Life Cycle

Apple has definitely impressed with the major improvements that the company has brought to the products released until now. As the company has also launched its iPad mini, it is believed that Apple will reduce its investments in the iPod touch. This means that it is expected for this device to feature no new improvements or major updates.

Ming-Chi Kuo, a well known analyst of Apple products, claimed that the iPod may have entered its final stage when it comes to the product’s life cycle. Apple has released its newest update to the iPod line last month, when the company presented a device with a larger 4-inch display, but also with many new features.

However, the analyst says that the popularity of the iPod will be affected by both the development of the iPhone and the new iPad mini. While the iPod touch, the newest generation, can be bought at the price of $299, the new iPad mini can be purchased at $329.

Having all these facts under consideration, it is said that the iPod touch will not continue to be as popular has it had been until now, which will become visible in reduced sales. Actually, even though the newest iPod comes with an interesting and quite impressive redesign technique, the truth is that this remains a limited device.

Consequently, Kuo believes that Apple will avoid to significantly investing in the development of such future models. Still, at its latest event, Apple announced that the iPod touch and the iPod nano remain extremely successful, as they sold in no less than 3 million units only during the first month of availability.

Other analysts claim that even though the company focuses less on the iPod, to concentrate its attention on the iPad, it is very unlikely for Apple to discontinue these devices in the near future. This is not the first time when Ming-Chi Kuo makes a prediction on Apple’s intention to discontinue a product.

Kuo claimed that Apple would do the same with its 17-inch MacBook Pro, while his prediction turned out being accurate. If Kuo is right this time, too, is something we are probably going to find out in the following months.
