Apple to start Online Sales of OS X 10.8 Mountain Lion and 10.7 Lion for $20

Apple seems to be willing to provide to its customers some special offers, as the company has initiated an online voucher sale for two of its OS X versions, the Mountain Lion and the Lion.

They are available at just $20. It seems that this offer is actually linked to Apple’s intention to ease the process of upgrading older Mac hardware.

Why did Apple choose to make this offer at this point?

Well, it looks like the company decided to make the older OS X iterations available online with the purpose to facilitate the update process for owners of Macs that are not supported by the OS X 10.9 Mavericks, which has just been released.

This may add more convenience to customers, or at least this is the purpose that Apple aims to achieve. Some compatibility issues have been reported with Mavericks, even though this update is able to run on OS X Snow Leopard systems.

Moreover, the current versions of OS X on the Mac are exclusively sold on the Mac App Store. However, for owners of Mac devices who have previously purchased their operating system, including the two options, these downloads are still available in the Mac App Store.

Of course, the vouchers are only accessible for users who did not already upgraded. Redemption codes are naturally available through the Apple’s Online Store, for $20.

They may use them to upgrade to Mountain Lion or Lion and enjoy all the benefits. The codes will then be used in the Mac App Store, from where the download can in fact be made.

So, Apple started to sell older versions of OS X through the Apple Online Store. Even though the updates are not available on the Mac Store, users may be happy to know that they can be purchased at $19.99 on Apple’s website.

Apple’s choice to offer these versions that work for older Macs, as newer versions of this device cannot run Mountain Lion. Apple’s decision to move the OS X Mountain Lion to Apple Store only is linked to the introduction of Mavericks, which is available via the Mac App Store.
