Apple to Replace Defective iPhone 5 Battery for Free

Apple announced that the iPhone 5 owners who have an issue with faulty battery will get the needed repairs done for free.

The famous tech company claimed that a very small percentage of the iPhone 5 devices that were sold between September 2012 and January 2013 have faulty batteries.

The defect makes these batteries drain quickly, as Apple claimed. A statement from Apple indicated that the company has "determined that a very small percentage of iPhone 5 devices may suddenly experience shorter battery life or need to be charged more frequently."

Apple revealed that they will actually replace the batteries in the affected devices, free of costs.

All users who want to find out if their device is eligible for the replacement of the battery can check their phone by plugging the device's serial number into Apple's site.

This is not the first time when a defect is traced in Apple's devices.

In fact, last year Apple revealed that they found a manufacturing defect in a few iPhone 5S devices. This made the batteries to drain quicker or to take longer to charge.

Moreover, iPhone 5S has faced previous issues, too. In May, Apple announced to have started a replacement program for the sleep/wake button.

There is no wonder after all that after only one year of being the flagship Apple smartphone, the company replaced the iPhone 5 with iPhone 5S.

The replacement of the defective batteries in these devices has already started in the US, as well as in China. The battery can be replaced at any Apple authorized service provider, or Apple technical support, depending on each location.

The famous company recommends users who need to replace the battery to back up data to iTunes or iCloud, while erasing all data and settings.

Apple also claimed that if the iPhone 5 that needs the replacement has previously suffered any damage, that damage has to repaired prior of the battery replacement.

Here may be included a cracked screen or any other damage to the device. This means that in some cases, people can find themselves in the situation of having to spend some money for the replacement process to be completed.
