New Malware uses Macs to infect iPhones

A recently released security report reveals that iPhone users in China might be affected by a new malware. This malware actually uses Macs and ends up infecting iPhones. So, Apple users in China have to be very careful at this new threat.

The intelligent malware was first traced by a US security firm. The company revealed that it attacks iPhones and iPads through Apple's Mac OS X operating system. The way this malware acts has determined analysts to call it WireLurker, as it actually waits for a device running iOS to connect via USB to a Mac.

The malware is hidden in apps downloaded from third party app stores in China. Specialists claim that the attack is currently limited only to China. Naturally, after the report was published, Apple acknowledged that some of its users might have been harmed by the attack.

"We are aware of malicious software available from a download site aimed at users in China, and we've blocked the identified apps to prevent them from launching," the famous tech company said in a statement. "As always, we recommend that users download and install software from trusted sources," it added.

However, the main issue with this new threat is that unlike most iOS threats it actually is not restricted to iPhones and iPads that have been jailbroken. A rep for Apple claimed that at this point the company is not aware how many individuals have been affected by this new threat.

Naturally, the malware represents a potential threat to individuals, but also businesses and governments. Analysts revealed that WireLurker is capable of stealing a variety of information from a device it affected.

Apple claimed that they started to take the needed measures to block the malicious software, so maybe all Chinese users will soon be away of any danger to have their information hacked. The threat is new to Apple, although similar attacks have been around since 2013.

Commonly, various threats and malware end up affecting a series of devices. The danger is quite big, as this way hackers can enter into the possession of a series of sensitive information for customers.
