Apple iCloud Hack Can Leak Millions of Passwords

Apple can once again be the target of hackers. A white hat hacker exposed a way in which millions of iOS passwords can be leaked.

The security researcher claimed that he found a way to send iCloud users fake phishing emails, which can exploit a security bug which allegedly exists in Apple's system and consequently make customer passwords vulnerable.

The security researcher alleged that he built and iOS 8.3 popup, which actually has the same appearance as the one of Apple's messages.

This means that users will not see any issue when being asked to re-enter their password. However, instead of directing users to their iCloud accounts, it actually manages to take full control over the device.

"This bug allows remote HTML content to be loaded, replacing the content of the original email message," the security researcher said. "JavaScript is disabled in this UIWebView, but it is still possible to build a functional password 'collector' using simple HTML and CSS," he added.

However, it seems that Apple was not impressed at all with the findings and the famous company has not confirmed yet the fact that such a security bug exists in the system.

This means that the famous company is yet to confirm the fact that the hack was really possible and there is a bug that can be exploited by hackers, who can potentially enter into the possession of users' passwords.

At this point, there were no reports of users being affected in any way by the possible security bug. However, it would be no shock if it turns out being legit, as the iCloud has previously been the target of hackers, who managed to gain access to a series of celebrity accounts, leading to the scandal linked to the leak of hundreds of celebrity nude photos, which were posted on the Internet, without their knowledge or permission.

Probably, Apple will address the issue, if it is confirmed, and in the next few days the famous company will also reveal a fix. Most commonly, Apple confirms such bugs at the time when it reveals the fix to all potentially affected users.
