Facebook will introduce Ads in Messenger

Facebook will introduce Ads in Messenger
Some new rumors have been wandering around the news these days. It looks like Facebook will introduce adds on their Messenger in the following months.

TechCrunch first reported that a document was leaked on the Internet these days, which reveals that Facebook will put adds on its Messenger in Q2 2016. Unfortunately, there are not many details about this document, but one thing is sure. Businesses will be able to send ads as messages to people who initiated a chat thread with the company.

To be added that the documents show that the social network has also launched in secret a URL short link that will instantly open a chat thread with a business. Facebook has admitted the existence of this address. This link also confirms that the leaked document is real and Facebook will introduce ads on Messenger.

However, Facebook has refused to comment on these rumors, declaring according to TechCrunch that:

“We don’t comment on rumor or speculation. That said, our aim with Messenger is to create a high quality, engaging experience for 800 million people around the world, and that includes ensuring people do not experience unwanted messages of any type.”

Of course, people don’t like ads on their apps.

That’s why Facebook is trying to reassure users that even if they will introduce these types of ads, they will not interfere with their social experience.

To be added that Messenger is one of the company’s fastest growing and most popular products, having approximately 800 million monthly active users. But, to be noted that until now, Facebook has never monetized it directly.

Still, users should not be concerned about Facebook’s decision, because the leaked document obtained by TechCrunch indicated that the company will not let brands send ad messages to any person who have liked their Pages. Actually, businesses will send ad messages to those who have voluntarily chatted with them. This rule will probably limit the spam potential or the discomfort of users.

However, this document that has been leaked on the Internet somehow contradicts what Facebook's CEO, Mark Zuckerberg, has declared with the purpose to calm down users of WhatsApp at its acquisition in 2014. He declared that:
“I don’t personally think ads are the right way to monetize messaging.”

Moreover, Jan Koum, WhatsApp’s CEO, has wrote on a blog post in 2012 that:
“Advertising isn’t just the disruption of aesthetics, the insults to your intelligence and the interruption of your train of thought.”

At the moment, video makers, news publishers and other brands have limited space in people’s News Feeds. This is also determined by the high number of content posted by users' friends. So, the social network has decided to let advertisers pay to ping people directly. To be added that Facebook is not the only company that has allowed advertisers to enter on their platform. Twitter has also announced that they have introduced new ways for companies to offer customer service through DMs.

For now, it is unclear what form these ads will take on Messenger. There are rumors claiming that businesses will use these ads to introduce new products or promote sales.
