Apple Runs Secret Apple Car Lab in Berlin

Apple Runs Secret Apple Car Lab in Berlin

Rumors on the possible release of the Apple car have become more intense in last period of time and now some unexpected claims have been made about the rumored upcoming Apple vehicle.

So, a German newspaper, Frankfurter Allgemeine, actually claimed that Apple has a secret lab in Berlin where some aspects of the Apple car are being designed.

The report went even further and claimed that Apple might be contracting Magna, which means that its Car would be manufactured in Austria. According to the German newspaper, Apple has a team of 15 to 20 people who are working on the engineering, but also on the hardware, software and future sales of the vehicle, here.

The report also indicated that this team hails from German automotive industry and the fact is that German cars are known and widely used throughout the world.

This means that there will be no surprise if Apple would choose Germany or Austria to make its vehicle.

Numerous premium auto brands are manufactured in this part of the world and some of them include Porsche, Mercedes, Audi or BMW. The report revealed that some Apple executives have already met with reps from Magna, which makes BMW Mini, to talk about the Apple Car.

Apple has not confirmed working at the Apple Car, which some reports have also called iCar or Titan, a rumored secret code name for the project, but many rumors have released a series of hypothesis about this vehicle. Some have claimed that the Apple Car would actually be a small electric car, which would be released in about three years.

The new report indicated that the Apple Car will ship in 2019 or 2020. Some reports have said that the Apple Car will not be a self-driving or a partially automated vehicle at the time when it will be released on the market for the first time. However, this does not mean that Apple is not having such features under consideration. The report said that the Apple Car could receive such functionalities later on.

This is not the first time when it has been reported that Apple has hired automotive experts to be working at the Apple Car. The Financial Times previously claimed that numerous automotive experts from Ford or Mercedes have joined Apple.

Another report, by the Wall Street Journal, said that hundreds of employees were already working at the Apple vehicle. This report was released in 2015 and claimed that Apple Car project was codenamed Titan.

Subsequent reports said that over 1,000 employees were part of Apple Car's team. Other reports said that Apple was not pleased with the way the team worked and the progress it had achieved, being willing to put a freeze on hiring for the moment.

Although Apple has not talked about these rumors, Tim Cook gave a hint on the tech company's potential intentions in February, when the CEO of Apple claimed that "it is going to be Christmas Eve for a while." This could mean that some time will pass until Apple will be making public its much-rumored Car project.
