I purchased a pair of Prime satellite speakers for my desktop audio system, which includes a 10 inch subwoofer, a Rotel amp rated at 50 wpc, and an Emotiva DAC. Source material includes music videos (classical, jazz and classic rock) and streaming movies.I am very impressed by the design and the 'fit 'n' finish' of speaker; tapered (chamfered) edges and separate compartments for tweeter and mid/woofer are very uncommon at this price point (but those features are common among far pricier speakers). My speakers have the "black ash" finish; it's a vinyl wrap but is visually appealing. They're even finished on the back which again is more the exception rather than the rule for a box speaker at this price point. Most important, of course, is the sound -- and these speakers do not disappoint. With proper setup (primarily to ensure that the tweeters are at ear level and that the speakers are equidistant from the listener's ears and from each other), they produce very satisfying results. They are especially good at reproducing female vocals (my favorites include Alison Krauss, Sylvia McNair and Rebecca Pidgeon)-- again, if set up properly. My five star rating of the Prime satellite speakers is not intended to suggest that they're the best sounding speakers for a desktop audio system. If you're willing to spend more (a lot more), chances are you can find something that to your ears will sound even better. I'll add that I have other speakers-- in my home theater system and in my home audio system-- that are better speakers. (They also are MUCH larger and several times more expensive.) But for me, for this application (desktop audio), I don't know of another speaker that represents a better combination of value, design, construction and sound quality. Highly recommended.

The SVS Prime Satellite Speakers, if using as an upgrade to something like Logitech Computer Speakers, or those All-In-One cheap 5.1 systems from a box store by brands like Polk, Klipsch, Sony, Samsung, Vizio, or Yamaha, these speakers would definitely be an upgrade. However, compared to more "audiophile" brands, I would rate them as "meh". They don't sound bad by any means, and they are actually quite neutral, as advertised (I have no need to EQ out overtly boasted frequencies). However, as others have said they sound "thin". Honestly, any speaker this size needs a Subwoofer, so people expecting deep bass from these alone are mistaken. What I mean by thin is definitely small in scale, imaging, and sound stage. Several speakers in this size and price point offer a much more convincing sound stage. They do play exceptionally well in desktop near-field listening at 2 feet apart. The neutrality also allows them to sound fine and blend well as side/rear surrounds in a surround sound system, but they lack the holographic imaging to give a fully immersive experience. With some recordings the 500Hz mid-range can sound stressed, and like these speakers are huffing and puffing out of the rear ports, even at low volumes. Not the finest detail of tweeter, but they do handle a variety of genres, and mixes well. The neutral sound works pretty well for many genres of music, from jazz to aggressive metal. The total sound signature of these speakers actually sound very similar to B&W 686's, at a fraction of the price.I picked up this pair of SVS Prime Satellite Speakers, as well as a pair of PSB Alpha P3's. The PSB P3 is the all around winner for rear surrounds, and a full bodied desktop speaker, while noting that the PSB P3 does have a bloated mid-bass hump at 250Hz, that sounds better when reduced with a graphical EQ. The P3 is more fun, and immersive to listen to, from movies, jazz, classical, skate punk, hardcore, thrash metal, and death metal. Where the SVS would win is in neutrality. I wouldn't use either speaker as a Studio Monitor (look to Dynaudio for killer active monitors), but if I were in a pinch, the SVS would serve better due to its very flat, neutral sound. The PSB is fairly neutral, but does have enough coloration to only serve as a listening speaker, not an honest monitoring speaker. In conclusion, these are not bad speakers, but at this price point, I'd also suggest auditioning similarly sized and priced PSB, Dali, Monitor Audio, and B&W speakers, and making the decision according to your tastes.

These are excellent front satellite speakers. I upgraded from an old pair of Bose Acoustimass speakers I won a long time ago. The Bose sounded similar to a pair of entry-level Polk Audio towers I also own, but the SVS speakers blew them both away. I am also using an SVS powered sub (also recommended), but the treble, mids, and staging are much, much, better than what I've tried before. Off-topic, but using the self-calibration feature on my Onkyo receiver made a further noticeable difference (and was something I ignored before; getting the cross-over frequencies and speaker distances manually is not my forte, apparently). These sound bright without fatiguing the ears or sounding shrill, and are making old music come back to life with new details my prior speakers just weren't able to reproduce. I will probably buy a second set to use as home theater surrounds, or perhaps will throw these to the back and buy larger SVS bookshelfs for the front/stereo audio use for even fuller range and musicality.

Great sound from a small speaker. Very well constructed and easy to mount.

They were purchased like new but were brand new to my surprise in the box which saved me 25%. SVS speakers are very nice if you have AVR receivers to complement with and I also have SVS Surround Ultra which is a very nice setup with Dolby sound.

I searched everywhere for the Bose rear-surround cube speakers. The only way these are offered by retailers is with the entire theater system, $999.99 (typical Bose pricing for nearly every product they sell....)These mini cubes have a better quality speaker and look great!I'm glad I kept searching. The grills on mine are snug. I understand past customers have had issues with them being loose.

Pretty nice sound for the price, fairly easy to connect and adjust. I like the ability to swivel them in different directions to cover more area. In a small room, this is highly effective, not so much in a big area. I use them for surround sound speakers at a height of about 8 feet, so splitting the speaker direction isn’t very useful for me, but I still like the feature. Good budget speakers.

I’ve got a 5.1 Yamaha setup, I was looking to replace a frozen rear speaker. these speakers are great, I enjoy that you can angle the two speakers, the mounts are pretty easy. They have retaining screws should you be looking to mount these in a boat? A few people pointed out the sound quality is kinda iffy, ymmv, but honestly they are rear speakers I think they make a great clear rear speaker, I couldn’t be happier. I would easily buy them again.

So, in no way do I consider myself an audiophile but you should know that I have plenty of experience and hours with higher end headphone brands such as Sennheiser, AKG, Beyerdynamic, Nura, etc. Also, there are obviously better speakers out there but my remarks and overall, my review, is based on the price of these. I cannot simply compare these to a set of $800 Klipshe towers hooked up to an amplifier.I'll put it very simple: for the price, it would be VERY difficult to find something that offers not only better sound quality but better value overall.I have these hooked up to my PC which is primarily used for gaming, however, these spend plenty of time playing music, videos, movies, etc. They have a fantastic soundstage. This was important to me because I do a lot of gaming and it's important to be able to know what direction your enemy is in. I can hear just about everything from gunshots across the map to someone trying to sneak up behind me.The mids and highs of the speakers are very well presented and do not get muddy at higher volumes regardless of what you're listening to. No distortion; there's a good balance.Speaking of balance, here's where my review isn't quite perfect. The bass, while it sounds good, can most certainly drown out everything else even at half level. I spent a solid half hour trying to get everything tuned and the bass took the longest to do so.Don't get me wrong, the bass is very powerful and packs quite the punch which a lot of people will enjoy. I most certainly do when watching an intense movie or something along those lines but not for music. For my music listening, I find myself turning the bass knob almost to 1/4 of it's potential. That's at least what my ears consider to be 'balanced'.This is something that can be adjusted and fixed so I am not taking a star off because of that. If these broke tomorrow, I would purchase the same exact speaker system again without hesitation.

Here's the part of the review where I receive my pay. See, I go on and on about how I am so much more qualified than that guy and that guy over there and that girl because I did this and that and that too. It's an ego stroke, you see. That's the pay. I'll send mine to charity. 27 years on the air in commercial broadcast radio qualifies me .. not one tiny bit more .. than you. You have two ears. I have two ears. And there we go.This is a speaker of the times, 2018. Technology. What do they sound like? They are very "close", very IN YOUR FACE. The sound field is intimate. Now, they back off and lack just a little bit on the high end. But the bass is unstoppable. Again, speaker of the times. If your scene is "Yo Baby Yo Baby Yo Baby Yo", it's all you could ever want in life. However .. if you like a little Jim Croce and America, it's not bad there either. Because the mid-range is so vibrant and colorful. And that comes in for what I was saying about "close". It's the middle part of a mix that carries intimacy and presence. These speakers have that. I would GUESS that Rush fans and maybe Genesis fans would be a little disappointed here .. simply because the complexity of that music needs a strong high end to explain itself. Neil and Phil would love it, though. The kick drum is definitely in the house. No, that's not a modern term. I mean .. it sounds like the kick drum is in your house. Really really. For the price of the speakers .. it's absolutely ludicrous that you can get this much fidelity. The value here is enormous. Highly, highly recommended.

For 100$ I'm absolutely amazed at the sound output. Highs and mids are very crisp. Bass will hit you in the chest at high volumes. It does take a little adjustment on equalizer to get perfect sound but then again what speakers don't. Would highly recommend this product to anyone looking for the best bang for their buck in the 100$range. I bought for my PC but will more then likely buy another for my tv in separate room.Update: After almost 2 weeks it has developed the high pitch noise in right speaker as described in other reviews . If your not right next to the speakers you don't notice it or at high volumes. But if you are like me and use them at a computer desk with the speakers right next to you , you notice it unless volume is medium to high. Rather disappointing cause i feel without this issue they would be a very nice setup.

I used two of these with a Klipsch PowerGate in my office for desktop speakers and listening to vinyl. These sound GREAT. I love cranking them up to music but often wish my coworkers had higher quality mics lol.. I will admit the S15 sounded even better but I just didn’t have the space for them.Be sure to check other places like accessories 4 less. I paid $165 open box for these from Amazon then found out I could’ve got them for a4l for only $130.I do use a psw10 subwoofer with these, but anyone expecting big bass from 4” drivers would probably be as happy with these as any other 4” drivers. If you want real bass, look for something with 6.5” drivers or larger.I may eventually buy another pair to use as rear surrounds in my living room.

I hooked these up to a Yamaha receiver in a small room and the sound is very basic not a lot of base range. Probably better suited for surround

Got these for rear surround for a home theater system. Sounds good for that purpose and looks great, from a distance. When looking closely the plastic on the back for the tuned vent does however look a bit cheap. Overall a good speaker though!

Definitive Technology ProMonitor 1000 - 2-Way Satellite or Bookshelf Speaker for Home Theater System | On Par with Any Large Speaker (Single, Black) Photo

Color:Black Product Description Remarkably sophisticated with the sound quality of much bigger speakers, the ProMonitor 1000 incorporates top-of-the-line Definitive Technology features for amazing home theater experiences

The speaker features BDSS driver coupled with a pressure-driven low-frequency radiator, a pure aluminum dome tweeter and a non-resonant PolyStone speaker cabinet that together produce rich, warm lifelike audio with smooth high-frequency reproduction

Small enough to hide yet attractive enough to show off, the speakers can be placed on a shelf, on a stand or mounted on a wall

The best satellite speaker in the acclaimed Pro Series, ProMonitor 1000 speakers pair with a ProCenter 2000 and matching ProSub for a complete ProCinema sound system

From the Manufacturer The ProMonitor 1000 is Definitive's largest and best satellite speaker in the acclaimed Pro Series

Four ProMonitor 1000s along with a ProCenter 2000 and ProSub 1000 makes a complete ProCinema 1000 system

All the components of the system are packed and sold separately allowing you to mix and match Pro Series components to build the system that best suits your needs

Small size speaker has remarkable sophistication and huge sound Easy to place with the built-in keyhole mount

View larger Bass radiators enhance low frequency performance for more true-to-life sound Rubber-tipped tripod stand ensures slip and mark-free shelf mounting Don't let the ProMonitor 1000's small size and affordable price fool you -- it is a remarkably sophisticated product with huge sound

The 1000 incorporates many of the same technologies as Definitive's top-of-the-line models including BDSS drivers, pure aluminum dome tweeters, and planar pressure coupled mid/bass radiators for home theater sound quality that will shock your friends and family when they hear your system for the first time

The Secret to Their Big Sound Competing satellite speakers of this size usually have weak lower-midrange response; that part of the audio range that contains the "warmth" and "body" of voices and musical instruments

Listen to a male vocal on typical small satellite speakers and you will instantly hear the weakness in the lower midrange

The ProMonitor satellites avoid this critical problem by pressure-coupling exclusive BDSS technology driver to an equal-sized mid/bass radiator cleverly placed on the top of the satellite

This technique doubles the lower-midrange radiating area of the speaker without increasing the size of the enclosure

You’ll enjoy the kind of rich, warm and life-like sound quality that you thought was only possible with big, hard to place speakers

Easy to Place, Easy to Use Small enough to disappear in a room but beautiful when in plain view, the 1000 satellites can be shelf-mounted with their unique tri-lobed base, wall-mounted using the built-in keyhole mount, or mounted using optional ProMount 90 articulating pivot wall mounts (sold separately)

The Sound Sonically, the ProMonitor 1000 satellite is a revelation in terms of achieving incredible sound at an affordable price

Their imaging is absolutely boxless, spacious and three dimensional while delivering pinpoint specificity and localization when called for

They are velvety smooth with you-are-there presence which is hard to find at any price and unheard of in this price range

The 1000 is dynamic but capable of great subtlety so it excels equally with music or movies

I had been using the Orb Mod2s I had sitting around as my surround satellites, but they didn't really match the room setup well. At my listening level and room size, Orbs tend to be a little too bright and brassy for my taste - it's especially grating on home theater material.I didn't audition the ProMonitor 1000s first (so it was a little bit of a gamble), but I figured that: 1.) they must represent an improvement over the Mod2s, and 2.) it wouldn't be the end of the world if they weren't great, since the satellites aren't THAT important in my setup. I considered repurposing some KEF Q100s that I had in another room, but they are WAY too deep and are aesthetically not what I want in the den.So... here are my thoughts on the ProMonitor 1000s:Visual appearance - the cabinets are reminiscent of other Mythos speakers, with a glossy, curved chassis. Unlike my other DT speakers (which have aluminum cabinets), the ProMonitor 1000s have plastic cabinets - which makes sense at this pricepoint. It's subjective, but I find the cabinet and grille to be attractive. The back of the speaker is not very good looking, with wire hookup posts and mounting options (tripod threading and keyhole). The are plugs to cover the back threaded mount holes, but nothing to conceal the keyholes or wire hookup posts. Mine are mounted on ProStand 1000s.Audio performance - I experimented with different crossover points and found 120hz to work best for me. While the speakers reach a little bit lower, frequency-wise, setting the crossover up at 120hz appeared to clean up the clarity quite a bit. Even though my speakers are not fully broken-in yet, they do sound quite good. The off-axis image of the speakers is good, but I did fail to think about the downsides of using a non-coaxial 2-way speaker SO close to my seating position. The Mod2s have a single driver design, so it wasn't really an issue until I bought these speakers. For what it's worth, I only notice it on certain types of music, and have not ever detected it on home theater content. Conclusion - Without the aesthetic concerns, I would probably have gone with ELAC B6s or the KEFs. However, it was a factor, so I'm happy with my purchase.

These are excellent speakers.I bought them with the cinema 600 series to make the 7.1 system.I was told by bestbuy staff that these are the best matching front speakers. It is beyond description how much better the sound is now compared to the 5.1 system. The only downside is that they are a bit pricey.Otherwise I would give 5 stars.

I agree with other reviews here - the sound is good for the price range and the speakers appear well made. After adjusting my AVR system and giving them to to break in, the sound is very pleasing for music, speech and movies. The speakers have solved a problem with clarity of speech with 5.1 movie sound and look good in the restricted space we had available. I just wish that DefTech had developed a suitable mounting bracket for this excellent little speaker - the expensive ProMount 90 units do not work with the PM1000's. I'm hoping that they will replace these with something that is strong enough, soon.
